Andrew B. Stern

Andrew B. Stern, 65, died Friday, November 11, 2016 at his home in Bolingbrook, IL. Andrew was born at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital in The Bronx, New York to Jack and Zosia Stern. Andrew was raised in Younkers, New York with his older brother, Michael; his younger sister, Marsha; and his baby-brother Kenneth. After high-school, Andrew attended New York University, BS 1972, Psychology; MS 1974 Statistics. Andrew was a PhD candidate at Hofstra University from 1975-1979, PhD 1979 (ABD). Andrew married Patricia Ramstad in New York in 1977, and later divorced. Together they had two children, Carl and Ava. Andrew raised his children in Providence, Rhode Island; and later lived in North Carolina; Evanston, IL, and Bolingbrook, IL. Andrew worked as a Qualitative Research Scientist, and in marketing and marketing research and held senior and executive level positions with several healthcare corporations. Andrew was a selfless man who would always, without exception, put his loved ones, and those around him first. Andrew was a source of encouragement for everyone around him- quick to remind you to forget the small stuff, and focus on what really matters- family, children, and being happy. Andrew loved spending time with his partner, Diane. Together they enjoyed tending to their large vegetable garden. Being avid music lovers, they regularly attended concerts in the Chicagoland area such as Crosby, Stills & Nash, The Rolling Stones, Buddy Guy, Jethro Tull, and Cat Stevens, to name just a few. Andrew grew up cheering his home team, the New York Yankees and continued to be a baseball lover his entire life. Andrew coached his son, Carl’s Little League team and was always proud of their championship win. Although always a true Yankees fan, late in life, Andrew adopted the Chicago Cubs, and had the fortune to see the Cubs win the World Series just weeks prior to his death. Andrew loved his children and grandchildren and would beam with pride whenever he had the opportunity to brag about them, which was often. Andrew was a dog lover and was rarely seen without his beloved Saint Bernard, Betsy, by his side. Andrew touched many lives, and will be deeply missed by all. He leaves his partner, Diane Bronson; his son, Carl Stern (Larissa); his daughter, Ava (Ramstad-Stern) Voeun (Veth); his grandchildren, Mannon, Zoe, Ella, and Julian; his brother Michael Stern (JoAnn); his sister Marsha Stern; his brother Kenneth Stern (Elidieth); the mother of his children, Patricia (Ramstad) Buettner; many nieces and nephews, many friends; and his faithful canine companion, Betsy Mae.
