George H. Bogler

George H. Bogler, of Bolingbrook, IL, died on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born on April 9, 1944 in Pittsburgh, PA before moving to Bolingbrook where he planted his family roots and began a life of civic service to the community. He married Patricia Bogler in June 1968, and together they had three children, Barbra, Rebecca and George. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Duquesne University and worked as an administrator in information technology at Rockwell International and Cotter & Company, among others. He is preceded in death by his parents George E. and Laura Bogler, and daughter Barbra Bogler. He was an instrumental member of several Bolingbrook Village commissions, including the Civic and Cultural Affairs Commission, the 911 Commission, the Information Technology Commission and was a key player in the development and launch of the Annual Village Picnic. As a Jaycee he was known as the Tootsie Roll guy, sitting outside Jewel collecting money for MDA every Labor Day Weekend. His efforts as Chairman of the Bolingbrook Junior Miss Program (Young Woman of the Year), gained him national recognition and awards. He was a key player in the Villages Annual Memorial Day Carnival for over 25 years, regardless of the sponsoring group. For the past 5 years his community efforts as President of the Bolingbrook Grey Core has been to transform James Meyer Park into an place where families and companies can host picnics free of charge, using the funds raised from the Annual Carnival to stock the pond with fish, place picnic benches around the park, and erect three picnic shelters each complete with handicap accessible tables and charcoal grills. The Village of Bolingbrook has honored George twice with distinguished awards, including Citizen of the Year and Grand Marshall of the Annual Pathways Parade. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations in George’s name to the American Cancer Society. Additionally, a dedication of the third picnic shelter will be held at James Meyer Park on Sunday, July 27, 2014 at 3 pm where George will be honored by the Village for his third and last time for his 30+ years of continued commitment to making Bolingbrook a place for generations to live and raise their children.
