Harold L. Willison

Harold L. Willison, age 89, of Woodridge, passed away on December 26, 2019 at Seasons Hospice Inpatient Center in Naperville after his battle with cancer, with his children by his side. Harold was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Rose Willison (nee Prush). He leaves behind a daughter Susan (Paul) Konczyk, son Michael (Rhonda), son Kevin (Victoria), daughter Karen (Richard) Blattner, nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many close friends. Harold was born June 14, 1930 in Chicago to his parents George and Beatrice Willison (nee McCummings). He was the youngest of six brothers. In his early years, Harold was placed in foster homes and eventually resided in the Lawrence Hall Home for boys. After leaving the home, Harold played major league baseball in the minor leagues. When his baseball career ended, Harold joined the Navy. He served as a Gunners mate for four years and was assigned to the USS Cambria. During his time in the service, Harold was stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and experienced combat in North Africa. After serving in the Navy, Harold worked at International Harvester in Chicago. He met his wife Rose there and they were married in 1953 at Our Lady of Grace Church. In 1969, they moved to Woodridge where they became lifelong residents. Harold was employed as a lithographer for Wallace Press. He attended school and became a pressman. Harold took pride in his work and was involved in many projects. Harold had a passion for life. He enjoyed traveling and visited many countries throughout the world. He loved sports, especially baseball and continued to coach until he was 78 years old. Harold was an avid fisherman and enjoyed many fishing trips in the Midwest area and Canada. He was a competitive bowler and participated on many teams. Harold was also a devoted fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team.
