Dr. Ozin Irowa

Born in Benin City, Nigeria on November 1, 1946, Gabe Ozin Irowa was one of six children born to Irowa Omoregie and Éseake Irowa Omoregie (née Iduwe). Their father took his first name as the last name for this family, which means that every person who has the last name of Irowa can be traced directly to him. As the fourth child in the family, Ozin grew up loved by his parents and many relatives. They all believed in the value of education, and his father made sure that all of his children (four boys and two girls) received an education. This is a tradition that continues to be pursued by this family today. Ozin left Nigeria when he was less than 20 to pursue higher education abroad. Stopping first in England, then in Ohio and finally in Canada, he trained as a biochemist and created the formulas for perfumes. Yet he always had a passion for medicine, and he became completely happy when he arrived in Lombard, Illinois where he studied chiropractic medicine under the watchful tutelage of such mentors as Dr. Haber. He also received an M.D. degree in the 1980s. Ozin was a natural doctor, and his medical knowledge was most recently tapped when he spent the month of August training new chiropractic students. In addition, he gave formal and informal medical care to countless numbers of people who crossed his path over the years. Ozin is survived by his sister, Mrs. Enoma Igbinosa. His senior brother, Emmanuel Osarenren, his older brother, Daniel, and his youngest brother, Osagie, have predeceased him. His older sister, Mrs. Ugieomo Ihidero, has also predeceased him. He will be sorely missed by his medical colleagues and other professionals he has known over the years. He will especially be missed by the Irowa family that will continue to honor him as the head of the family. He leaves behind more than fifty nieces and nephews whose names are known to the Irowa family. Ozin will also be missed by his wife of 36 years, Pamela Smith, who will always appreciate and remember his encouragement as she pursued a Ph.D. He will also be missed by his son, Osadolo Ozin Irowa, whose graduation in May where he received a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering was proudly attended by his parentsi. Although he has left us, he will be in our hearts always. The remembrance will be held at the McCauley Funeral Home in Bolingbrook on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 11 am.
