Teresa "Tess" Floyd
July 4, 2020
Teresa “Tess” (Barnicle) Floyd, 87, of Bolingbrook, IL, passed away peacefully in her home of 52 years on Saturday, July 4, 2020 with her daughters by her side. She was born on June 1, 1933 in Knockaunakill, Co. Mayo, Ireland to Kate and John Barnicle. She was one of ten children with 3 brothers and 6 sisters. She came to America when she was 14 years old with her older sister Ann (Barnicle) McCormack and soon settled down in Des Moines, Iowa. She fell in love with a handsome decorated Marine named Noble C. Floyd Jr. and was married February 23, 1952. They started their family in Des Moines, Iowa and went on to have 3 children, Diann (Ed) Hanley, Denese (Dave) Allen, and Kevin Floyd. She became a US citizen May 1, 1956 and was a graduate of Des Moines Technical High School. In 1957, another sister, Nora (Barnicle) McCormack, joined them in the states. Noble’s work involved starting new company offices, so from Des Moines they moved to New Windsor, NY and then Cerritos, CA before finally settling down in Bolingbrook, IL in 1968. Teresa was very excited to be reunited with her sisters who had been living in Chicago. Over the years, she worked at Denny’s, the accounting department at Sears, and as an election judge where she met some friends who were very near and dear to her heart. She also worked for her son-in-law Dave, at his printing business. She greatly enjoyed gardening, having garage sales, shoveling snow for her neighbors, stenciling and painting anything that didn’t move, McDonald’s coffee, Burger King hamburgers, activities with her Sears friends, and visiting with her sisters. She was a loving grandmother to her only grandchild, Stephanie Allen (Robert Tworek) and was always present at her Irish dance performances, band concerts, and other activities. She was preceded in death by her husband Noble who she is now reunited with after 35 years. She is the dear sister of Mary (late John) Monaghan, late Ann (late Patrick) McCormack, late Nell (late Jack) McHugh, Nora (late Michael) McCormack, Kitty (Oliver) Devine, Phyllis (Frank) Conroy, late Paddy (Chris) Barnicle, late Tom (Kathleen) Barnicle and the late Sean Barnicle. She is the fond aunt and friend of many. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Visitation Wednesday from 4-8pm.
