Achutha Shenoy, MD, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026, at the age of 73, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born on May 24, 1952, in Uppinangady, a little hamlet in Karnataka, India, to B.T. Narayan Shenoy and Mukta Shenoy, he was the third of eight siblings in a close and loving family.
He earned his medical degree from Kasturba Medical College and, on December 21, 1980, married the love of his life, Kala Pai.
After further training in England, they settled in the United States, where he completed his psychiatry residency at the Illinois State Psychiatry Institute in 1986. He went on to serve as an attending psychiatrist at Cook County Health, where he cared for countless patients with compassion and integrity until his retirement in 2012.
A devoted husband and doting father to Tara and Sheila, Achutha's family was the center of his world. He was a compassionate physician, a dependable brother, and a generous presence to all who knew him. He loved reading nonfiction and history books, cheering for the Chicago Bears and Chicago Bulls, investing in the stock market, traveling with family, savoring Thai cuisine, walking in nature, and taking care of all things home-related.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Kala; his daughters, Tara and Sheila; three sisters and three brothers; and many cherished brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews. His life was marked by quiet strength, intellect, and unwavering love.
