Alfred J. McAndrew entered eternal rest on May 4th. 2026 at the age of 95. Born in Chicago, IL, to John and Esther McAndrew. Alfred spent 53 years with the love of his life, Dolores McANdrew, nee Piasecki. They adopted and raised three children, Joseph, Patrick and Dolores, (Dee). Alfred is preceded in death by his wife Dolores and his son, Joseph. He is survived by his son Patrick, and daughter Dee (David); Grandchildren, Joseph (Sarah), Melissa (Jeff), Shannon (Timothy), Michael (Erika), Vera Rose and David; and several Nieces and Great Grandchildren.
Alfred was a Veteran of the United States Air Force and began his military career at the age of 19 and proudly served during the Korean War. He retired from the military after 27 years in order to spend more time with his cherished wife Dolores and raise their three children. After he retired from the military, he built a career in Market Research, Insurance and various entrepreneurial endeavors. He raised his family with quiet devotion and will be remembered for his Faith, loyalty and ingenuity.
He cherished the many family trips taken as their children grew up, camping trips in Shawano Wisconsin, Christmas time trips to Disney World & various blended business/family trips. He thrived when reminiscing about his time and escapades in the military and the deep friendships he made along the way.
He resided in the Village of Glenview, IL for over 60 years. He will be fondly remembered as "the Colonel”, the one who was always sharing flowers from his wife's perennial garden, his favorite Fannie Mae candy or Frango mints, and his captivating and amusing stories.
Though his absence brings sorrow, we will find comfort in believing that he is at peace. The faith Alfred lived by does not disappear with time. We will continue to draw strength from the examples he set, trusting that what he believed in will always have meaning and purpose in our lives.
His Memorial Visitation will take place on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., located at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 1775 Grove Street, Glenview, Illinois 60025. His Military Honors will be rendered at 9:45 a.m., prior to the beginning of his Memorial Service, which begins at 10:00 a.m.
