Dr. Arun Ohri, who was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away on Monday, January 25, 2021. He was 66 years old. Born in New Delhi, Dr. Ohri was a man of deep compassion, spirituality, curiosity, and strength.
After earning his medical degree from Maulana Azad Medical School in New Delhi, Dr. Ohri moved to Chicago where he went on to establish a remarkable career as a gastroenterologist. He became a pioneer of the latest medical technological advancements in the field of gastroenterology and was repeatedly named one of Chicago's top doctors.
It was almost impossible to quench his thirst for life and beautiful experiences. After establishing his career, Dr. Ohri became an avid runner and biker. He committed to those interests as he did to his career- completing multiple triathlons and seeking out biking tours around the world. Even a rare cancer couldn't hold him down. He underwent a stem cell transplant in August 2019 and began taking walks and visiting his favorite restaurants just a month after coming home.
Dr. Ohri wore his heart on his sleeve in every sense. He loved his friends, loved being a doctor, loved exploring new restaurants, loved cultivating his interest in wine, and loved traveling.
More than anything, Dr. Ohri loved his family who are heartbroken over this loss. In his last moments, he was surrounded by his wife Shashi and children Shubra and Ashray, and felt the great love of all his friends and family. He was and is deeply loved.
