Obituary

Beant Kaur, 96, passed away peacefully at her home in Bolingbrook, Illinois on the morning of November 26th, 2024.

She is survived by her three daughters, Satinder, Manjit and Tajinder, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She is finally reunited with her devoted husband Tirlok Singh and beloved son, Dr. Gurmit S. Dhillon.

Beant Kaur was born on November 1, 1928, in what is now Pakistan. As a young woman, she endured the devastating 1947 partition of India and Pakistan, undertaking a grueling two-month journey on foot to Punjab, India. This life-altering migration left an indelible, deep-seated impression—etched with memories of loss and the uncertainty of starting anew. Beant's family eventually resettled in Muktsar, Punjab, where they began rebuilding their lives.

Beant's natural curiosity and inquisitive nature remained a defining trait throughout her life. Though she had to set aside her formal education at a young age, she devoted herself to nurturing her family and creating a vibrant household. Even in her 90s, she embraced new challenges, including mastering English and studying history. Most days, she could be found in her sunroom deeply immersed in a book, a testament to her enduring curiosity and love of learning.

Her vibrant, quick-witted storytelling captivated listeners of all ages, while her infectious laughter brought joy to everyone around her. She radiated a warmth that welcomed both strangers and friends alike.

After losing her devoted husband in latter years, she made the difficult decision to leave her home in New Delhi and move to the US. Though the transition was challenging, she found solace and happiness in forming deep and loving bonds with her great-grandchildren.

Beant Kaur was deeply devoted to Sikhi and passed away peacefully in the early morning hours, preparing to recite her Nitnem during Amrit Vela. She leaves behind a legacy of resilience, love, and unshakable faith that will continue to guide her family for generations to come.
