Bridget T. Delegan

Bridget Delegan, (Bridie) 90, Lemont Illinois passed away peacefully Monday, July 31st at Silver Cross Hospital. She was surrounded by her loving family as she journeyed toward eternal rest. Bridie was born December 23, 1926 in Castlebar, Ireland. She moved to Brooklyn, New York in 1949 and moved to Chicago in 1952. In 1956 she married the love of her life, George and they had 27 years together before he passed in 1983. Bridie then opened an in-home child care business in order to provide for herself. These children were all precious to her and are now grown; many have continued to visit her. Bridget loved to have cookies in the yellow tin for her grandchildren; she always had beautiful flowers and a perfect lawn which she tended well into her eighties. She walked all over Bolingbrook to achieve whatever goals she had for the day; loved to have a “senior coffee” at McDonalds with her church friends; always had an open door and a cup of tea ready for visitors at her home. She cherished her children, their spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She knew how to make each feel special. She had an Irish wit and an iron will and a huge love of sports, especially her beloved Cubs. It is no coincidence she passed after they FINALLY won the World Series. She loved her husband and desired to go be with him in heaven. Above all she was a woman of true grace and strived to be holy in the eyes of the Lord. Mrs. Delegan was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Ann (Jennings) O’Hara; her husband George, her sisters Ann, Mary, and Margaret, her brother Joseph O’Hara and two grandchildren Amy Marie Delegan and Theodore Delegan Brunk. Survivors include children, Tom Delegan (Carol), Ken Delegan (JoAnne), Ann Blaas, and Peg Brunk (Ted), and grandchildren: Kelli, Jennifer, Erin, Sarah, Erik, Nicole, Bridget, Cortney, Katie, Mary, Sean, Jack and Anna and great grandchildren: Adam, Austin, Jake, Tyler, Bella, Oliver, Elizabeth, Victoria, Claudia, Gracie, and Archer. Visitation is Thursday August 3 3-8 at McCauley Funeral Home, 530 W. Boughton Road, Bolingbrook. Mass of Christian burial 10:00 am at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church on Friday August 4 with internment following at Holy Sepulchre Cemetary in Alsip. She will be laid to rest next to her beloved George. Bridie would like people to pray for the repose of her soul. Well done good and faithful servant. Godspeed Bridie.
