Dr. Chandrasekhar Upputuri's Obituary

Dr. Chandrasekhar Upputuri, son of late Rama Rao and Vasumathi Devi, born on April 28, 1946, in Eturu, India, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Dr. Upputuri pursued his medical degree in Hyderabad, India, and dedicated his life creating better opportunities for his family. His journey took him to Iran for several years before he immigrated to the United States in 1991. At an age when many are well-established in their careers, he displayed extraordinary determination by embarking on a demanding residency program in anesthesiology at the age of 51 in Jackson, Mississippi. Following the completion of his residency, he practiced medicine with dedication and compassion in Dixon, Illinois, until his retirement.

Family was central to Dr. Upputuri's life. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mamatha Upputuri; his children Ram (Padmaja), Krishna (Krisanne), and Sharada (Aaron); and his cherished grandchildren Aryana, Kavin, Keerthan, Evan, Eliana, and Isha. He is also fondly remembered by his brother Gopala Kishan Prasad Vupputuri (Indira) and sisters Kasturi (Dr. Jagadish Prasad Athota) Durga (Dr. Sinha Chunduri), and Vasundhara (late Dr. Venkata Rao Kakkera).

In retirement, Dr. Upputuri found immense joy in spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Whether engaging them in chess matches or cheering them on at their sporting events, he treasured these moments deeply. He remained connected to his roots by keeping up with Indian news and found delight in simple pleasures such as watching tennis and enjoying a well-made gin and tonic.

Dr. Upputuri's life was a testament to perseverance, love for family, and an unwavering commitment to both his profession and personal passions. His legacy will live on through the lives he touched and the memories he created with those who knew him. May he rest in peace.
