Darshan Kaur Sanghera was born in Udeseya, Punjab, India on November 24th, 1934, daughter of Ram Singh and Ind Kaur. She was the fifth of six children, with two older sisters, two older brothers, and one younger brother. She leaves behind six children, fifteen grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Bahinder Singh Sanghera, whom she married in 1952, immigrated to the United States and graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1925. At the young age of 37 she became a widow and took over the farming business. She joined her family in the United States in 1982 and settled in the Chicago area alongside her children. As a single mother of six, she made sure her children and grandchildren were supported and prospered in their own lives.

Throughout her life she was active in her village and neighboring communities in Punjab. She was an avid gardener and traveler and touched the lives of the countless people she crossed paths with. She was so well liked by all who knew her as she was so welcoming and friendly that they felt they were part of the family. She had a long and fruitful life and will be sorely missed by her family and friends.

Cremation is being held at McCauley-Sullivan Funeral Home & Crematorium in Bolingbrook, Illinois on September 12, 2023 at 12 PM. Traditional Sikh Prayers will be at 11 AM on September 16, 2023 at Wheaton Gurdwara Sahib at 2131 Creekside Drive in Wheaton, Illinois.
