Dawn M Ferrara

Dawn M. Ferrara, 56, died on Sunday November 9, 2014 at the Adventist Hospital in Bolingbrook from complications of lung cancer. She was born on March 29, 1958 in Bolingbrook, IL to Ruth and Donald Ziemer. Dawn had an amazing smile and made anyone feel at home within minutes of meeting her. She was always the hostess and commanded the room. The holidays were her favorite time of the year because she loved spending time with her family. Dawn possessed a true servant’s heart by sharing her gift of baking with family and friends. She would spend her first week of Christmas vacation making special cookies and sending her kids to deliver them around the neighborhood. She passed on the traditions of both her mom, and mother-in-law, especially at the holidays. She was the “big sista” answering any questions, especially cooking questions. She was the first one you’d think to call when something exciting happened in your life. Dawn had a love of beauty and color and an amazing adventurous spirit. Her garden was always magnificent and reflective of that love. The Village of Bolingbrook recognized her talent and love with two garden awards. Dawn loved to dance. She had one special dance called the “Mom Dance.” Everyone who knew Dawn knew how well she performed the “Mom Dance.” Dawn met her husband, Michael, at work in 1977. Michael took one look at Dawn and said, “This is the woman I’m going to marry.” On July 7th, 1979 they were married and have lived happily ever after for the past 36 years. Michael and Dawn raised their three beautiful and strong children Michael Ferrara, Heather Schultz (Tony), and Jenafer Mays (Brian). Her surviving family members include husband Michael Kenneth Ferrara and their children. Dawn has seven grandchildren: Kaylee, Connor, Gianna, Taylor, Annalyse, Justin, and Colton. She is survived by her sisters, Donna and Debbie (Danny) and her brothers preceded her in death, Don and Ron (Pam). There are many other family members, beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. Dawn worked at Cigna Intracorp for twenty five years where she made many friends. She truly felt purpose in her career. The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support. Dawn’s signature of her smiles, laughter, and joking will never be forgotten.
