With sadness we announce the passing of Dean "Dinoo" Balaney on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at the age of 82 at his home in Westmont, Illinois.
He was born in March 1943 in Sindh, India, the eldest of 4 children. He graduated high school in 1959 from S.S.L. Jain Intermediate College in Vidisha, India, and later received his degree in Engineering from Samrat Ashok Technological Institute. After immigrating to the United States in 1972 with little to his name, he built a remarkable career from the ground up. He earned his MBA from the University of Miami in 1983 while working and ultimately served as the project manager and senior development director on numerous multimillion-dollar projects such as the landmark Southeast Financial Center in Miami, Amtrak's 30th Street Station in Philadelphia, and the McCormick Place and Navy Pier expansion project and Sofitel Hotel in Chicago.
Dean enjoyed savoring life, sharing his love of travel and exploring new experiences with his family. He was an avid golfer, Sudoku-solver, newspaper-reader, and lover of fine dining, wine and whiskey. Above all, he loved playing with his grandsons, delighting in their laughter.
Family was at the center of Dean's life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathoo and Lachmi Balaney, and his sister, Maya. He is survived by many who loved him as the: beloved husband of Jaishree Balaney for 50 years; loving father of Bhavna Balaney and father-in-law of Adam Kost; devoted grandfather of Ajay and Ayan Kost; cherished brother of Jawahar Balaney and Subhash Balaney; and dear uncle of Samir Balaney, Ruchi Balaney, Seema Balaney, Deepu Balaney, Sucheta Dunigan, and Phillip Dunigan. Dean also leaves behind many close cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and good friends who will miss him deeply.
Those who knew Dean will remember him having a big smile, an even bigger laugh, and the biggest heart and hugs.
Dean's visitation will take place on Sunday, February 1, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., located at McCauley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 530 West Boughton Road, Bolingbrook, Illinois 60440. Puja to follow the visitation, beginning at 12:00 p.m. Cremation Ceremony to conclude the funeral services.
