Diane M. Vandiver, 76 years young, of Bolingbrook, IL, peacefully passed away in her beloved home surrounded by her adoring children on December 3, 2024.
Born and raised in Madison, WI, she moved to Chicago in 1970 to marry the late Robert L. Vandiver and raise his son Daniel L. Vandiver of Japan. The births of Sonja (Soni) and Adam followed, and the family moved to Bolingbrook in April 1977. It is in their original home she remained until her death.
A true lover of life and learning, Diane's passions included gardening, interior decorating, historical and theological research, language and culture studies, and animal/ environmental causes. She was an avid reader, who enjoyed a great book and cup of tea in the afternoons, and her Sunday morning crossword puzzles with her coffee. She was an amazing storyteller, and was told on many occasions she should have been an writer. She also took great pleasure spending time with her several "grand-dogs" over the years.
In addition to being a loving wife and amazing mother, other roles played throughout her life included: Montessori teacher, Med/Surg nurse, weekly newspaper columnist for the former Joliet Herald News, neighborhood daycare provider, telemarketer at Meritz/Alpha Research, Centel Cable, President of the New American Homes Homeowners Assoc., Team Mom on many youth sports teams, "second mom" or "grandma" to many, March of Dimes coordinator, and Mothers Against Gangs board member, before finally retiring as Co-Chair on the Village of Bolingbrook's Neighborhood Preservation Committee.
Having lived a very fulfilled life, Diane was truly loved and will be greatly missed by all, including extended family, neighbors, former colleagues, lifetime friends and all who knew her. She left an indelible mark on all she touched.
Diane is survived by her children, Sonja (Ricky) Pridemore of Minooka, IL and Adam R. Vandiver of Bolingbrook, IL . ; her brother Richard (LuAnn) Hofland, niece Amanda Owens, and great -nephew Levi. She is proceeded in death by her parents Eugene and Laurine Hofland.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks and gratitude for all the care she received from the following: UChicago AdventHealth Bolingbrook Hospital, UChicago AdventHealth Cancer Institute of Hinsdale, Superior Ambulance, and Lighthouse Hospice and Palliative Care of Downers Grove.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life at a future date.
