Dr. Dipak S. Shah's Obituary

Dr. Dipak S. Shah (May 24, 1949 - December 27, 2022)

Dr. Dipak Shah (73) passed away peacefully in his home on December 27, 2022. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and dentist. Dipak-bhai, as he was to his family and friends, was born in Bardoli, a small town in the state of Gujarat in India. He always spoke fondly of the vast and vibrant farm on which his family had settled. His father Dr. Shantilal Shah, was a family physician who profoundly influenced his professional career.

His academic pursuits led him to Bombay, where he completed his bachelors degree and went on to pursue his dental studies at Government Dental College and Hospital and post-graduate training in Oral Surgery. It was here where he met his wife, Dr. Sheela Gandhi Shah. They were wed on January 26, 1974 and started their new life in Chicago shortly thereafter.

Dr. Shah was a passionate, confident, and naturally gifted dentist. He was a master of his craft and treated his patients with the utmost compassion and respect. He and his wife, Sheela, built two practices in the Chicagoland area where they welcomed patients from all walks of life, including their very own local Indian community. He found joy in the service of others and valued ethics and perfection above all else.

Dipak-bhai had a way of lighting up any room he entered. He always provided a sense of warmth and comfort to those around him. He was an avid musician and shared his passion for singing and performing with his community. He taught music to many of his friends and led fundraising efforts to raise money for several charities.

In his later years, Dr. Shah began a difficult battle with Parkinson's Disease. Despite his challenges, he remained determined to experience life to the fullest extent. Even on his toughest days, he maintained a positive attitude, cracked jokes, and always continued to smile. He cherished the time he spent with his family and always beamed in the presence of his two grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Sheela Shah; his sisters Rashmi Shah and Asha Manaktala; sons Ravi and Sagar Shah; daughter-in-law Lorie Shah; grandchildren Sunjay and Leila Shah.

Dr. Shah's revered legacy of compassion and hard work will be eternally celebrated by his family, friends, and colleagues across the globe.
