(Donald) Ray Smiley was born July 24, 1955, in Chicago, Illinois, to Maggie and Leo Smiley. He graduated from Westinghouse Area Vocational High School, where he worked at Jewel Grocery and developed a love for tailored clothing. While she was in high school and he had recently graduated, he met his future wife, Janis, and they later married, raising two children, Monica and Christopher.

Ray worked as a software developer at Westinghouse, AT&T, and Lucent Technologies, earning a patent and contributing to projects such as establishing 911 systems. He retired early at 45 and enjoyed volunteering at Copley Medical Hospital.

Ray loved technology, music, cars, and staying connected with family. He is survived by his children, siblings, extended family, and many loved ones. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brother.

Ray will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his dedication to family, love of learning, and generous spirit.

The visitation will take place on Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m., located at McCauley-Sullivan Funeral Home & Crematorium, 530 West Boughton Road, Bolingbrook, Illinois 60440. Private Intement.
