We have gathered on this day to share the memory of our Father, Brother, Uncle, Friend and Subtle Comedian, Mr. Edward Kwame Asiedu Mensah was better known as Agya Mensah in many circles across the Chicagoland area where he resided for over 35 years. He was loved by all and did not hesitate to share that same love doubled to everyone. His passing away had left voids in all of our hearts today.
Mr. Mensah was born on May 10, 1946 to parents, Mr. Kojo Bekoe and Madam Ama Ntriwaa who are both of blessed memory; in Adansi Ayaasi in Obuasi is in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
Agya Mensah was the oldest of 2 siblings, the other his sister, who has also of blessed memory to the aforementioned parents. He attended primary school in Obuasi and secondary school at Opoku Ware in Kumasi. He completed some college before moving to Germany in the late sixties.
In 1972, Agya Mensah traveled to the United States and reised in New York from 1972 to 1983. It was 1983 that he then moved to Chicago, Illinois and established himself there as a taxi driver, driving for Checker and ABO (Ampofo, Boateng, and Ofori); before bringing his wife Esther Addae to the United States. Mr. Mensah continued working as a taxi driver earning a medallion through the company he was working for in the city. Agya Mensah served in the community by participating in many Ghana community related meetings and programs and no matter the occasion, Agya Mensah would always bring smiles and laughter to the room with his wit and humor.
Agya Mensah enjoyed sports especially soccer with Chelsea FC being his favorite club because Michael Essien played for them in the 90s. Agya Mensah also liked reading his bible and showing his wealth of knowledge about Ghana's history whenever anyone would give him a listening ear.
Agya Mensah fell ill over the last few years and unfortunately succumbed to his illness on May 5, 2024. He has left behind three sons namely, Alexander Ofosu Mensah (Ghana), Overseer Edmond Mensah (USA), and Albert Mensah-Bekoe (USA); seven grandchildren and many nephews and nieces, namely Jonathan Poku amd Paul Amankwah.
Mr. Edward Agya Mensah may your spirit continue to inspire us here on earth as you have taken the lead to Heaven for us. We will meet again. REST IN PEACE and in the bosom of our Lord.
The visitation will take place on Saturday, June 22, 2024, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. located at McCauley-Sullivan Funeral Home & Crematorium, 530 West Boughton Road, Bolingbrook, Illinois 60440. The funeral service begins at 12:30 p.m. The burial will conclude services at Clarendon Hills Cemetery, 6900 South Cass Avenue, Darien, Illinois 60561, at 2:00 p.m.
