Eugene H. "Gene" Scott, age 80, died peacefully at his home in Bolingbrook, Illinois on December 9, 2021 after a several-year battle with cancer.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Mary (Logsdon) Scott, sons Gregory (Kelly) and Dean (Megan), step children Kenneth (Elizabeth) Logsdon and Susan (Jim) Logsdon; sister Lois (Phil) DeGiulio; brother-in-law William (Cathi) Marzec; Uncle Kenneth Sypal, 8 grandchildren, many cousins, and two beloved dogs, Emma Rose and Saddie Mae. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dean H. and Celestine A. (Sypal) Scott; and two sons, Eugene Scott, Jr. and Brian Scott.
He was born on October 12, 1941 in St. Louis, Missouri and subsequently lived in several locations in the Chicago suburbs, eventually settling in Bolingbrook for over 31 years. His first big move was in 1962 when he joined the United States Marine Corps and served as a Loadmaster from 1962-1966, seeing action during the Vietnam War. He later served in the United States Air Force Reserve as a Loadmaster. He also achieved a Master Mason designation during his 32-year membership with the Freemasons.
Gene's love of machinery began as a small boy visiting his grandparents' farm in rural Nebraska and led him to the military and then his civilian career of 31 years in the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150 as a heavy equipment operator. His other passions included motorcycles, golf, amateur ham radio, playing flight simulators on his computer, Chicago Blackhawks and Chicago Blackhawks Special Hockey, and Rockford IceHogs.
A Memorial Visitation will take place on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, from 4 until 7 p.m. Chapel prayers will begin at 6:00 p.m. Interment is scheduled for Thursday, December 16, 2021 at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery for 12:30 p.m. For anyone who plans to join at the cemetery, please arrive at McCauley-Sullivan Funeral Home after 10:30 a.m. The procession will depart at 11:30 a.m. A Memorial Luncheon will follow the services at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery and be held at The Silver Dollar Restaurant and Banquets, 422 East Mississippi Avenue, Elwood, Illinois 60421.
