Genell Harris was born on October 15, 1930 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Mr. and Mrs. Evans Harris.
Genell graduated from Wendell Phillips High School in Chicago, Illinois and attended some college at Roosevelt University.
She began her working career at Internal Revenue Service from where she retired. She proudly served the I.R.S. for over 40 years. She worked at the Illustrious Chicago Theater during her retirement. She will be remembered for her love of music and the "arts".

She was a cherished sister of the late Ruby Harris, late Mary Stevenson, and the late Yvonne Braswell. She leaves to mourn her death, her loving nephew Evans (Diane Washington-Martin), great nephew John Martin, nieces: Tommetta Adams of Chicago, Illinois; Lashan Nixon of Washington State, Yvette Hayes of Minneapolis, Minnesota, great nieces: Yvonne Guerro, and Jasmine Hawkins; many cousins and a host of loving friends.
