James Thomas Patrick Durkin, age 78, of Bolingbrook, passed peacefully at home after a long battle with Parkinson's and Dementia on August 15, 2021.
Jim was born in Chicago to John and Helen Durkin and was the youngest child of five. He is preceded in death by both of his parents, his brothers Tom and Fran (Pat). His nephews Scott and Sean and niece, Shelly.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Verena of almost 55 years and their three children, Kathy (John) Scherp, Lynn (Scott) Hastings and Dan (Perry) Durkin. His 9 grandchildren; Jim (Kierstin), Kyle (Lisha), Sarah, Nathan, Tyler, Ryan, Emily, Vivian and Rhett, and bonus grandchildren Molly, Maggie and Rowan. In addition to his two great grandsons James and Joseph. His brother Jack (Kathy), sister Pat (Al), sister in law Judy and all of his nieces and nephews and friends.
Jim served in the Army and was a pipe fitter (Local 597U). An avid sports fan, loving all things White Sox, Bears and Blackhawks. Nothing made him smile more than watching all sports that his grandchildren participated in.
In accordance with his wishes, a celebration of Jim's life will be held at a later date.
