Obituary

Janice (Jan) Marie Magee (nee Grigas), long time resident of Bolingbrook, died peacefully on Dec. 6 at the age of 72.

Jan was born Nov. 10, 1948 in Chicago, where she grew up on the south side and graduated from South Shore High School in 1966.

In 1968 she met the love of her life, Bill Magee, while both were working at Honeywell Electronic Data Processing in Chicago.

They were married in 1971 and celebrated 49 years of marriage together. The couple bought their home in Bolingbrook in 1971, and throughout their tenure there were proud parents to five cats: Squeaker, Sis, Buddy, Punkin and Scruffy.

Throughout the exploration of her life Jan lived not only the length of it, but also its width.

She was an avid cat and animal lover, was a student of Native American flute music and culture, enjoyed nature retreats to Starved Rock State Park, and was known fondly within her family circle as the "Queen of Genealogy". Her efforts to research her and her husband's family history led her to many areas of the country tracking down information on the family tree's roots. For many years she volunteered at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints Family Center in Naperville gathering information.

Among her many accomplishments included bicycling 500 miles every summer for several years as part of Bicycle Across the Magnificent Miles of Illinois (BAMMI). She also was proud of her home gardens, raising tomatoes, peppers, basil, herbs and grapes, as well as a wide range of flowers outside her home.

Loving sister to brothers John "Jack" Grigas, Joseph Grigas and Don Grigas, as well as many cousins, nephews and nieces, including her "Sweetheart" nephew, Brian Grigas, and close cousin Leslie Vanderwarren.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Grigas and Beatrice "Betty" Grigas (nee Holtom), as well as brother "Jack" (Sharon).
