Jay Purshottam Dayal Khatau (Jay or Jitu) passed away peacefully on August 4th, 2024. Jay was lovingly known as Bhai, "Big Daddy", Dada, Nana, and Fua to his family and friends. He was born in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania into a business family. He went to the UK to study automobile engineering; and moved to the US in 1971. Jay was the patriarch of the Khatau family and would often refer to himself as the Christopher Columbus of the family.
Upon moving to the United States, Jay started a thriving business in African Art and became the largest dealer of such artwork to major US and international museums, galleries and exhibitions. Jay's entrepreneurial spirit and confidence have been an inspiration to his family and friends. He would often state that whatever he did, he wanted to be #1. Jay had an enthusiasm for life and coined the phrase "LODAAT" or Live One Day At A Time. His boyish love of life and love for all people will be his true legacy for future generation.
At the ripe age of 77, instead of retiring, he chose a new passion for holistic wellness and studied Ayurvedic Therapy. He had an insatiable desire to study and as an Ayurvedic therapy's embarked on a journey to study under Masters in India, Thailand and Japan.
Jay is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years Ramila. He is also survived by his siblings Janak, Mahendra and Madhuri (Fuba); his daughters Venu (Harish) and Gemini (Yogesh); his son Rajiv (Yogeeta); grand daughters Maya (Ashwin), Meghan, Kiran; grandsons Krishna, Jash, Suraj, Arjun; and great-grand son Reyan.

The visitation is scheduled on Friday, August 9th 2024 from 11am to 12.15pm at McCauley-Sullivan Funeral Home 530 West Boughton Road, Bolingbrook, IL 60440. Eulogies and the memorial will take place from 11am to 12.15pm with a Puja to follow for Family members.
