John William Davin

John William Davin, a devoted family man and a tireless champion for America's veterans, passed away on September 25, 2026, at the VA Hospital at the age of 76.

A proud and unwavering supporter of the United States armed forces, John’s life was defined by his profound commitment to those who served. His dedication was most evident through his extensive and distinguished leadership within the Veterans of Foreign Wars. As a cornerstone of VFW Post 5917 in Bolingbrook, Illinois, John served in numerous vital capacities, including Commander of the post and Commander of the Post 5917 Honor Guard. His exceptional leadership eventually extended far beyond his local community; he proudly served as the District 18 Commander and achieved the high honor of serving as the VFW Department of Illinois Commander. John poured his heart into the VFW, finding his greatest purpose in advocating for veterans' needs, honoring their sacrifices, and tirelessly supporting currently deployed members of the US military.

While John was a highly respected leader and advocate in the public sphere, his deepest joys were found at home. The absolute lights of his life were his two beloved granddaughters, Isabella and Abigail Davin, who brought him immeasurable pride, laughter, and happiness.

He is survived by his spouse, Beryl; his son, Jerry, and daughter-in-law, Julia; his cherished granddaughters, Isabella and Abigail; and his siblings, Christine, Terry, Kimberly, and Larry.

John’s legacy of fierce loyalty, camaraderie, and boundless love for his country and his family leaves a lasting mark. He will be deeply missed by his family, his friends, and the countless veterans and community members whose lives he touched.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, October 6th at 1:00p.m. at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois, located at 20953 W. Hoff Road, Elwood, IL 60421, for John's burial honors.

Together, we will commemorate his life, honor his legacy, and pay tribute to his dedicated service as a U.S. Army veteran.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to VFW Post 5917 (DONATE). This will ensure that John’s lifelong mission of caring for our veterans and active-duty military personnel continues in his memory.
