Obituary

Julia Prosecky, aged 95, beloved wife of 50 years of the late Louis Prosecky, passed away peacefully in her home on October 5, 2024. She was born in Chicago on May 6, 1929. A lifelong resident of Chicago, she lived the final years of her life with her daughter and family in Bolingbrook, Illinois, where she was lovingly cared for by family members until her passing. Julia was the loving mother of Louis (Nellie) Prosecky, the late James (Helen) Prosecky, Susan (late Ed) Baley, Linda (Bob) Juretschke, and Thomas Prosecky. She was the adored grandmother of Adriana (David), Freddy, Little Louie (Michelle), Nancy (Nick), Joey (Mari), Nicole, Karen (Jack), Eddie (Michelle), Stephanie, Kimmy, Mark (Holly), Michael, and David. Julia was also a cherished great grandmother, great-great grandmother, and aunt to many nieces and nephews, all of whom she dearly loved.

Julia was one of the most kind and compassionate women you could ever meet. She had a warm and beautiful smile and was never more at ease than when she was with family. She was so happy in May when she was surprised with a 95th birthday party that was attended by more than 70 people that included all four generations of her family. The very fact that almost every member of her large extended family was in attendance was testament to how dearly she was loved.

Julia had an incredible love of animals and would always favor the 'runt of the litter' that someone else might not choose, saying she felt sorry for them and that she always saw herself in the same way. Far to the contrary, Julia was no runt. After the unexpected death of her husband 25 years ago, she uncovered an incredible strength and stamina that brought to light the fact that she was indeed the 'pick of the litter'. Julia had many significant health struggles in recent years but she always bounced back, sometimes even to the surprise of her medical caregivers. She constantly beat the odds, including beating breast cancer at the age of 94.

Julia's mind remained sharp and she loved playing Rummy or Yahtzee at the kitchen table with family. She loved to watch old movies and could still name all of the old-time actors when watching the classics. She likely watched The Godfather and all of its sequels at least 100 times. There probably isn't a movie that starred her favorite actors, Al Pacino and Robert De Niro, that Julia didn't see. Her latest favorite movie was Bohemian Rhapsody, which she also watched a number of times. She loved watching game shows, crime shows and court TV. She loved sweets and snacks and happily enjoyed them daily. She would go to the casino and play slots every day if she could. She's probably up in heaven right now going for that triple-diamond jackpot on her favorite machine.

Julia has left this earth, but she will never leave our hearts. She leaves behind her dear sister Florence Fako with whom she shared a loving bond. She is preceded in death by her parents Stanley and Mary (Sabaj) Pytko, sister Irene Pytko, sister Helen Sivula, brother Tony and best friend and sister-in-law Isabel Pytko, brother Stanley and sister-in-law Fay Pytko, twin brother John and sister-in-law Arlene Pytko, and brother-in-law Ed Fako.
