Leona Joan Giesel (nee Polena), age 82, passed away unexpectedly at home on May 17, 2021. She was the beloved wife of the late Timothy, for over 62 years, loving Mom of Janice (Chris) Diaferio, late Timothy Allen, Randal (Barbara Spong) Giesel, Susan (John) Schneider, and Donna (nee Stringfield) (Eric) Mayer, cherished Grandma of Nicholas (Jennifer) Diaferio, Lindsay (Dan) Skiba, Jaclyn and Jenna Diaferio, Brianna Giesel, Bailie (Tyler) Piasecki, Tanner Giesel, Tyler and Marissa Schneider, and Vance Lullo, adored great-Grandma of Jack and Drew Diaferio, Trace McDarrah, and Declan, dear sister to the late Adolf, late Arlene Stringfield, late Kathy, and late Donna, and fond aunt of many nieces and nephews.
Leona enjoyed gardening at home. More importantly, she loved cooking and hosting her family. The memories created were very precious to her throughout her life. As a "domestic engineer", she always wanted to make sure her family was taken care of. She will be dearly missed.
Visitation Thursday, May 20, 2021, from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm. Funeral Service will take place at 11:30am at McCauley-Sullivan Funeral Home & Crematorium, 530 W. Boughton Road Bolingbrook, IL. 60440. The service will be presided over by Father Pat Murphy from St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Burial will take place after the services at Resurrection Cemetery-Romeoville.
