Leoncio M. Bacani, age 86, of Bolingbrook, IL passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 5th, 2022, surrounded by family, friends and staff of the Lighthouse Hospice Care and Meadowbrook Manor (Bolingbrook). He was born on January 31st, 1936, to Melchior and Beatrice Bacani in the Philippines. As a young boy during the Japanese Philippine War, his knowledge of the Japanese language enabled him to be a translator for the U.S. military. Early in 1981, he and his wife Marlene along with their 2 children, Joseph and Maria, migrated to the United States where they first settled in Omaha, Nebraska and then later moving to the Chicagoland area. Leoncio worked for the Chicago Sun-Times for several years. Known to many as "Ens," he enjoyed spending time with family and friend, doing crossword puzzles throughout the day, watching the Chicago Cubs, and perfecting his chicken adobo recipe.

He is preceded in death by his son Joseph Bacani; and by all his other 9 siblings and parents.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marlene; daughter, Maria (Saul) Datwyler; four grandchildren, Joshua, Elizabeth, and Claire Bacani; and Theodora Datwyler.

A Memorial Visitation will take place on Thursday, October 13, 2022, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. A Memorial Mass will follow on Friday, October 14, 2022, starting at 10:00 a.m., located at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1501 West Boughton Road, Bolingbrook, Illinois 60490. The family would like to invite everyone to a Memorial Luncheon in Leoncio's honor after the memorial mass on Friday at the Bolingbrook Golf Club, 2001 Rodeo Drive, Bolingbrook, Illinois 60490.
