Obituary

M. Miguel Gaytan, age 82, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026.

Miguel grew up in Chicago, where he built a life defined by hard work, service, and devotion to family. He carried deep pride in his Mexican roots and a strong appreciation for the opportunities that shaped his life. A proud U.S. veteran, he served 21 years in the Air National Guard, exemplifying discipline, commitment, and patriotism throughout his military career.

Professionally, Miguel was a highly skilled tool and die maker and an accomplished mechanical engineer by training and experience, widely consulted for his expertise in technical designs and problem-solving. A true master of his craft, his dedication to precision, innovation, and excellence earned him deep respect within his industry. He fulfilled his lifelong dream of business ownership by founding and operating a successful spring manufacturing company. In addition, Miguel was passionate about education and proudly taught tool making at Washburne Trade School in Chicago, mentoring and inspiring future generations.

Beyond his professional and military accomplishments, Miguel was known for his joyful spirit and warm personality. He was a fun-loving, jovial man who brought laughter and light into every room. He deeply loved family gatherings, where his stories, humor, and presence were always the heart of the celebration. Miguel also had a lifelong love of music and faithfully sang in his church choir, sharing his voice, his joy, and his faith with those around him.

Miguel is survived by his five children: Miguel Oscar Gaytan; Adriana Staker and her husband, Benjamin; Marisa Calderon and her husband, Edward; Monica Gaytan; and Gabriel Gaytan and his wife, Maribel. He shared his children with his former wife, Maria Antonia Gaytan, with whom he maintained a lifelong bond of mutual respect.

He was a proud and loving grandfather to Ariana, Sasha, Brandon, Christian, Zachary, Melanie, and Makayla, who brought him immense joy. He is also survived by his sister, Connie Ludlum and her husband Thomas; and his brother, Jesus Gaytan along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jose Gaytan; his mother, Socorro Gaytan; his brothers, Epifanio, Jose, Luis, Juan, and Sabino Gaytan; and his sister, Carmen Ontiveros.

Miguel will be remembered as a devoted father and grandfather, a respected craftsman and educator, a proud veteran, and a man of integrity whose perseverance, humility, and strength left a lasting impression on all who knew him. His legacy lives on through the family he cherished and the lives he touched.

His visitation will take place on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m., located at McCauley-Sullivan Funeral Home & Crematorium, 530 West Boughton Road, Bolingbrook, Illinois 60440. The funeral mass will take place the following day, Thursday, January 15, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m., located at St. Cletus Catholic Parish, 600 West 55th Street, LaGrange, Illinois 60525. Private interment.
