MacGlee "Hector" S. Flores
MacGlee Sesuca Flores, 77, passed away on January 17, 2024. He was born on August 26, 1946 in Cabugao, Ilocos Sur, Philippines to parents Lucrecio, a Protestant minister, and Hilaria, a school teacher. He was the second of 5 children. He graduated from Mapua Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering.
He was married to Galilee Cabacungan on June 21, 1971. They had their first son Troy in 1972, followed by Hanzel in 1974.
Shortly after his second son was born, Mac immigrated to the United States. Leaving his wife, Galilee (Lily) and two boys, he came to the new country to carve out the beginnings of a new life for his young family in the city of Chicago, IL. Lily would follow him soon afterwards, but would have to leave the children behind in the care of relatives in the Philippines, while they established employment and a home in the States. It would be 2 more years before they were all reunited in the new land in 1976. They would later move to the suburbs in 1981 to the village of Downers Grove, where Mac and Lily raised their children until adulthood. In 2005, Mac and Lily moved to Bolingbrook, IL.
Mac and Lily became members of First Christian Church of Downers Grove with the boys and were faithful members of the congregation for over 43 years until his death. He loved to sing in the choir, which he also did for 4 decades.
Mac was first employed in the 70s at DeSoto Chemical Company, where he developed paints and specialty chemicals. After moving to the suburbs, he would go on to continue his work with paint at a company called Seymour of Sycamore. It was here that he developed a new patent, for a temporary spray paint used for road markings. This was truly a highlight of his career and he was very proud of the work he had done in creating it.
Later in his work life, he transitioned to a position as a pharmacy technician where he would work until his retirement in 2020.
MacGlee is preceded in death by his father Lucrecio; his mother Hilaria; his sisters Rebecca and Dahlia; his brother Arvin.
MacGlee is survived by his wife, Galilee; his sons Troy (Jannice) and Hanzel (Melanie); 5 grandchildren: Jayden, Julien, TJ, Maddyn, and Jazlyn and sister Veronica; among numerous other relatives.
At church, he would be remembered as a devout Christian, faithfully attending every week. He had an opera like singing voice, which was perfect for singing praises and worship songs. Everyone loved to hear him sing.
As a family man, you will never find someone as committed. As a husband, he was the provider and very loving. As a father, he was always supportive, understanding, and nurturing. As the family grew older, very few vacations were spent without Grandpa; he could always be found doting on the little ones at holiday parties and family gatherings. He was a favorite grandparent amongst the 'apo' (grandchildren), especially to Jazlyn, the youngest granddaughter.
As a friend and colleague, Mac would bring much light and laughter. He was well loved by family and friends; never too serious; always quick to make a joke. And never too shy to laugh and smile among friends.
A visitation to honor MacGlee's life will be held Thursday, January 25th from 4 - 8 PM at McCauley-Sullivan Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held the following day on Friday, January 26th at 10 AM at First Christian Church of Downers Grove located at 801 63rd St. Downers Grove, IL 60516.
