Maria Camacho, daughter of Catalina and Efren Camacho, was born on March 8, 1938, in Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday, May 21, 2026, in her cherished Bolingbrook home where she had lived for 43 years.
From a young age, Maria was known for her strong will and caring nature, often taking charge and looking after her brothers and sisters. She was a hardworking woman whose strength and dedication defined her life. She worked from a very young age and began her professional career at Kresge’s five-and-dime store on State Street in Chicago and later worked as a bookkeeper at May & Speh in Downers Grove until her retirement in 1999. She took pride in her work and in caring for those around her.
Maria found joy in the simple pleasures that made a house a home. She was an avid gardener and received multiple beautification awards for the landscaping surrounding her home. She also enjoyed crocheting, puzzles, and crossword games, always keeping her hands and mind busy.
Some of Maria’s happiest moments were spent with family — whether she was in the kitchen making buñuelos, picking apples in the orchards, enjoying trips to the Wisconsin State Fair and the Indiana Dunes, or staying together in the log cabins of Door County. These memories will remain treasured by all who knew and loved her.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents, Catalina and Efren Camacho; her sister, Celia; and her brothers, Frank and Raymond.
She is survived by her beloved brother, Efren; her sisters, Sara and Mary Lou; and many loving nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss her dearly and cherish her memory and the love she shared so generously.
The visitation will take place on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 9am-12pm located at McCauley-Sullivan Funeral Home 530 West Boughton Rd. Bolingbrook, IL 60440. Maria’s burial will proceed after the visitation at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville 200 W. Romeo Rd., Romeoville, IL 60446 at 12:45 PM.
