Maria Nicolasa Flores de Torres, affectionately known as “Nico,” passed away peacefully on October 29, 2026, at the age of 93, surrounded by the love of her devoted family in Bolingbrook, Illinois.
Nico was born on June 27, 1933, to Nemesio Flores and Josefa Torres. She grew up with humble beginnings in El Ranchito, a small community in Cerrito Verde, Colotlán, Jalisco, Mexico.
In February 1955, she married Primitivo Torres in Colotlán, Jalisco. Together, they shared 64 years of marriage, raising their family and building a life together. In 2000, Nico and Primitivo moved to Bolingbrook, Illinois, where they continued their life together until his passing in May 2019.
Throughout her life, Nico devoted herself to caring for her family. She helped raise not only her children, but also her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family was always an important part of her life, and she had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren.
Nico was the best lawyer any grandchild could ever ask for. Whenever one of them found themselves in trouble, she always managed to find a good excuse, offer a little extra grace, and come to their defense. She had a special way of making each grandchild feel like they were her favorite, and somehow, each one was convinced they were the best in her eyes. That was Nico. She had enough love for everyone, and she made sure they knew it.
Nico also had a soft spot for animals and never hesitated to extend a caring hand to one in need. She loved to cook, enjoyed knitting, and was rarely without her signature fragrant perfume. And on a hot day, there was nothing quite like a good, cold Coca-Cola. These are some of the simple things her family will always remember about her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Primitivo Torres, and her son, Absalon “Chalon” Torres.
Nico is survived by her three children: Yolanda and her husband, Ruben; Rodrigo and his wife, Leticia; and Jesus “Chuy” Torres. She also leaves behind six beloved grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry her love and memory in their hearts.
Nico lived a long life, and through the generations of family she helped raise, her love and memory will live on. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
