On Sunday, August 11th , 2024, Maria Lyons, resident of Bolingbrook, IL, cherished mother of five, grandmother of eight, great-grandmother of seven, beloved widow of John Lyons, passed away after a brief illness. She filled her 80 years of life with love, care and laughter; as willing to spend time celebrating the joys of life as she was in guiding and helping those who needed it.

She grew up in Chicago in a close-knit family with three sisters and two brothers, the bonds of this family staying strong throughout their lives – gatherings that included a lot of food, drinks and laughter.

Maria is survived by her children, Rick (Heather), Joe (Liz), Derek (Anne-Marie), Celine, Erik (Sarah), and her grandchildren Tierney, Maria, Johnathan, Jacob, Mary Ann. Madeline, Jessica and Xavier. Preceded in death by granddaughter Jessica.

Maria was especially fond of travel, her favorites being her trips to NY to see her late brother David, where they enjoyed the peak of the NYC disco scene, hitting the famous spots like Studio 54, even meeting and befriending the Village People. Trips to Mexico with her late husband of over 40 years John were just as precious to her. Drinks, sun and surf were something they loved to share together.

As Maria's family spread out to start families of their own, she had more time to explore her passions: reading and music – passions that were passed on to her children and grandchildren. Her zest for life and her spirit can still be felt throughout the family as evidenced by laughter and her ubiquitous bottle of Red Stag.

A visitation for Mary will be held on Wednesday, August 14th from 4 - 8 PM at McCauley-Sullivan Funeral Home & Crematorium.
