Dr. M.S. Laxmi Narayan of Burr Ridge, Illinois, passed away on Monday, June 3, 2024, at the age of 80. He was the beloved husband of Vanamala; the most loving father to Rashmi Narayan (Nikunj Chokshi) and Vinesh Narayan; and doting grandfather to Avi (9) and Adhira (4). He was a trusted big brother, uncle, and friend to many.
Dr. Narayan moved to Chicago from India in 1967 for his residency at Cook County Hospital. He was a devoted pediatrician for nearly 45 years with a robust private practice at Rush University Medical Center and multiple generations of loyal patients. Starting in residency, he also provided health care for children at Cook County's Arthur J. Audy Home Juvenile Detention Center, where his compassionate care eventually led him to become Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Narayan was renowned for his kind heart and committed care, his empathy and open mindedness, his attention to detail, and the infectious smile and intrinsic joy he brought to each visit. He was honored to receive Emeritus status at Rush, multiple recognitions in Chicago, and his legacy includes an annual award for pediatric residents- The Laxmi Narayan, MD, Education and Research Endowed Fund for Excellence in Primary Care Pediatrics.
Personally, Dr. Narayan loved to spend time with his family and friends, particularly his grandchildren. He maintained his passion for patient care following retirement as a volunteer cuddler for babies in the Rush University NICU. He was a dedicated devotee, student, and volunteer at Chinmaya Mission Chicago. His faith in Lord Ganesha carried him through his life.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 7 from 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM (CST) at McCauley-Sullivan Funeral Home & Crematorium. A private ceremony for family will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Chinmaya Organization for Rural Development (CORD) (Sidhbari location) at
