Philip "Phil" J. Cerney III, 64, of Naperville, Illinois passed away on January 21 after a valiant battle with cancer.
Phil grew up in Oak Lawn, IL. He graduated from Brother Rice High School and went on to study Finance at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign before later getting his MBA at DePaul University. He worked as an accountant for over 30 years and spent much of his later years trying to convince his children, nieces, and nephews to follow in his CPA footsteps.
In addition to being a dedicated and loving father and grandfather, Phil also loved staying active in the church, keeping up-to-date on sports trivia, particularly for his beloved White Sox, and spending time with family. He held an unwavering faith in God, which brought him much peace in his last days before his final journey to Heaven.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Lenora (Su), his children, Kate (Bennett) Lafferty, Philip (Lauren) Cerney IV, and Megan (Ian) Nohner, his stepchildren, Gina (Doug) Vinsand and Deborah (Fabian Krause) Francis, his grandchildren and step-grandchildren Jonathan, Thomas, Holden, and Ava, his siblings Lynne (Jack) Putz, Jill (Jim) Sukowicz, Dan (Tina) Cerney, Mick (Patty) Cerney and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Joan, and his brother, Tom.
Visitation Thursday, February 2nd, from 3:00pm-7:00pm at McCauley-Sullivan Funeral Home (530 W. Boughton Rd, Bolingbrook, IL). Memorial service will follow on February 3rd at 4pm at the Compass Church (1551 Hobson Rd, Naperville, IL), with a visitation the hour preceding. Interment Private.
