In Loving Memory of Dr. Pushpa Arvind Shah
November 16, 1938 – May 31, 2025
With deep love and gratitude, we celebrate the life of Dr. Pushpa Arvind Shah, who passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025, at the age of 86. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, physician, friend, and a radiant presence in the lives of all who knew her.
Born in Karnataka, India on November 16, 1938, Pushpa came from a lineage of trailblazers. She was the proud granddaughter of Dr. Yeshwant Nadgir, the first Indian dean of Grant Medical School in Mumbai. Inspired by his legacy, she pursued her medical education at the same institution, where she also met the love of her life and husband of 30 years, the late Dr. Arvindkumar N. Shah.
Pushpa began her career as an obstetrician-gynecologist in India, where she found joy in welcoming new life into the world. After immigrating to the United States, she retrained as a pathologist and practiced at Holy Cross Hospital for over three decades. Her brilliance, dedication, and empathy made her not only a respected physician, but a deeply admired mentor and colleague.
More than her career, Pushpa was defined by her love for her family and friends. She is survived by her beloved sisters, Shanta and Lata, her loving children, Alpita and Ankit, her dear daughter-in-law Supriya, and her cherished grandchildren, Anya, Shiven, and Arjun. Her family was the heart of her world, and her role as a mother and grandmother brought her boundless joy.
In retirement, Pushpa embraced life with the same warmth and energy that defined her earlier years. She traveled the world, hosted joyful gatherings in her home, sang with her karaoke club, participated in several book clubs, and lovingly cared for her grandchildren. She filled her days with purpose, laughter, and connection.
Her life was a beautiful blend of service, wisdom, and love—a life lived fully and generously. She will be remembered for her kindness, her radiant smile, her depth of character, and the strength and grace with which she carried herself.
