Obituary

Richard J. Sanhamel, 89, of Bolingbrook, IL; loving husband of the late
Dolores (Michaels) Sanhamel for 54 years, beloved father of Mark (Pamela) Sanhamel;
cherished grandfather of Ryan and Shane; devoted brother to Marilynn (the late George) Schwinn,
Linda (Lawrence) Esbjorn, and the late Gregory (Kathleen) Baker. Fond brother-in-law to the late
Robert (Dianne) Michaels (Thomas) Huestis. Dear uncle to John (Joanie) Schwinn,
Julie Gleason, James (Tracey) Schwinn, Karen (Anthony) Moore, Thomas (Carolyn) Baker,
Michelle (Anthony) Michalowicz, Deanne (Carl) Czarnik, and Robert (Christine) Michaels.

Born in Evanston, IL, he was the son of the late Leona (Chester) Baker and the late
John Sanhamel. Richard graduated from Lane Tech High School in 1953 and was a
member of the crew team and Printers' Club. He enjoyed caddying for golf legend,
Chick Evans and they formed a lifelong friendship.
From 1955 to 1959, Richard was in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably
discharged as a Sergeant. He was part of the Eisenhower operations that sent in the
Marines to occupy Beirut, Lebanon in 1958 and resist Castro from pushing the US
out of Guantanamo Bay in 1959.

He received his Bachelor of Science in Commerce from DePaul University in 1967.
Throughout his career, he worked at various places including the Chicago Tribune,
Continental National Bank, and as a CPA with his own practice and many clients.
When working at Continental National Bank in Chicago, he met his wife, Dolores.
They were married on November 4, 1967. In 1972, Dolores and Richard built their new home in Bolingbrook where he resided for 52 years. Richard was a devoted husband, father, and
grandfather.

He will be remembered for his love of his family, desire to travel and see the world,
talent for golf, dedicated professionalism, lively conversations, and charismatic storytelling.
He will be interred at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
