Satya Pal Kalra, devoted husband of the late Tara Kalra, departed for his final journey on the morning of August 27, 2021. Married for 72 years, he was the loving father of Madhu (Jug) Uppal, Rajiv Kalra and Neerja (Sanjiv) Madan and a doting grandfather and great-grandfather.
Born in 1923, in British India in the town of Wan Bhacharan in Punjab, Satya was the oldest of 11 children of Amir Chand and Hemo Devi Kalra. At the tender age of nine, he was sent to Jwalamukhi Gurukul on the banks of river Ganga to study Sanskrit, Vedas and other Hindu scriptures. Exceptionally brilliant, he completed his Shastri degree at the age of 18 and left the Gurukul to make a living. After the Partition of India in 1947, his family arrived in UP and he found a job in Kanpur. He completed a law degree in 1948 and married Tara Mehndiratta soon after that. After spending many years in Rudrapur, Satya and Tara retired to Delhi.
After migrating to the US with his wife in 1998, Satya settled in Martin Avenue Apartments in Naperville. He served as a volunteer at Edward Hospital and loved driving his wife to various stores. He was an avid walker and could be found walking even in the coldest of weather.
His family will be forever indebted to the excellent care provided to him by the physicians, nurses and other staff at Edward Hospital, Pearl of Naperville and, finally, Bria of Westmont for their devotion and heart!
