Obituary

Shyam Sunder Wahi, born May 22, 1940 in Amritsar, India, ascended to the heavenly
abode on December 21, 2025.

Shyam was born in Amritsar India on May 22, 1940, to Chaman Lal and Lila Vati Wahi.
He was the second oldest of 6 siblings -- Onkar Nath, Devinder Mohan, Shashi Bala, Vir
Bala, and Madhu Bala. Shyam completed his BA and Master's in Economics at
Government College of Ludhiana in 1961. He worked as an accountant at Pearl
Industries in Ludhiana. Shyam married the love of his life, Sangeeta Seth, on
November 23, 1968, in Delhi, India. While living in Ludhiana, in 1969, they were
blessed by the birth of their daughter, Sandhya. In February 1970, Shyam came to the
United States to pursue further professional opportunities. He graduated with an MS in
Accounting from Roosevelt University and then proudly became a CPA. All along with
his incredible work ethic he supported his young family by working for $2/hour,
commuting daily from Harvey, IL to downtown Chicago. Shyam and Sangeeta were
blessed with their second child Sanjay, who was born in 1972. After working at St.
James Hospital, Shyam spent most of his professional career as a valued member of
the Olympia Fields and Chicago Osteopathic Hospitals. Shyam was a quick study who
spent much time understanding the roles of his colleagues. He coached them to further
develop their skills and led ways to improve administrative processes. He became a
trusted colleague and due to his integrity, diligence, and affable demeanor, Shyam was
the first international graduate to join the c-suite in the role of Chief Financial Officer.
After retirement, Shyam continued to spend most of his time doing what he loved most
– bonding with family and spiritual pursuits. He was an avid scholar of the Gita.
Shyam's favorite trips involved his family visiting national parks, traveling internationally,
and most of all returning to his homeland of India to see historic sites, visit relatives, and
nurture his spiritual journey.

Throughout his life, Shyam was a stalwart luminary of his community. He loved
everyone without judgment and cherished the gift of laughter. Shyam has always been
known as the selfless pillar of the family, someone who everyone turned to for guidance
and advocacy. Shyam's smile lit up a room and his gentle nature typically led to
authentic conversations with words of wisdom that were far reaching. Shyam loved his
family beyond words, and he was a huge reason those around him flourished. Shyam
Sunder's presence on earth was the embodiment of beauty, and he forever is a sattvic
soul. Hari Om Shanti.
