Steven Warren Harris, Jr. was born on October 27, 1974, to Marilyn (nee Pino) and Steven Harris, Sr. in Chicago, IL. Steve, or as many relatives called him, “Stevie,” grew up in Glenwood, IL with his sister and their parents. He attended elementary and junior high school in Glenwood, IL and was confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Homewood, IL when he was in eighth grade.
Steve was curious from an early age, expressing an interest in animals, astronomy, and ancient civilizations. Even his initial major in college was in anthropology. Steve graduated from Luther East High School in Lansing, IL. There, he excelled in science and math, eventually taking his senior year math class independently because his skills were unmatched among other students. Steve attended the University of Illinois, later graduating from Governors State University with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.
He began a career in cyber security, even before graduating, later holding many additional certifications in the field. Steve was a valued senior cyber security engineer, supporting several large companies, for nearly 30 years. At his current employer, Sayers, an IT solutions firm, Steve was an essential contributor to his team.
Steve was a comic book fanatic, a Trekkie, a Star Wars authority, a great cook, an avid reader, and a current events and history enthusiast. He was also a music aficionado of all things Prince, Jimmie Hendrix, Bob Marley, and Reggae in general.
In 2022, Steve married his best friend of over a decade, Carrie, and they shared a fierce love for their pets. He named his first pet, a black cat, Millennium (Millie for short), since she was born in 2000. At one time, Steve and Carrie shared a home with two dogs, two cats and a bearded dragon. After a brief relocation to North Carolina, Steve and Carrie drove back to Illinois with all five pets in tow.
Steve loved his family dearly and genuinely cherished a family gathering filled with amazing food. We love him so much and will miss him forever.
Steve is survived by his wife, Carrie, his parents Steve and Marilyn, his sister Michelle, his brother in-law Cornelious, his nephews Brandon and Aaron, his great niece Caylin, his aunt Jeanna, his uncle Hank, many cousins and friends, and his beloved pets Freddie, Mookie, and Drogan.
A Memorial Service for Steve will take place on Saturday, May 9, 2026, beginning with a visitation at 10:00 a.m. located at McCauley-Sullivan Funeral Home & Crematorium (530 West Boughton Road, Bolingbrook, IL 60440). Service to follow at 11:00 a.m.
