Tara Kalra, beloved wife of Satya Pal Kalra, departed for her final journey on the morning of June 6, 2021. Married for 72 years, she was the devoted mother of Madhu (Jug) Uppal, Rajiv (Joann) Kalra and Neerja (Sanjiv) Madan and a doting grandmother and great-grandmother.
Born in 1928, in British India in the town of Mianwali (now Pakistan), she grew up with her 6 siblings in a home that valued education and devotion to family. In 1947, she provided shelter for her mother and siblings as they fled their ancestral home for what became the independent India. After marrying into a large family, she became a surrogate mother to her young sisters and brothers-in-law. When faced with financial difficulties, she took control of her family's destiny and started teaching in the small town of Rudrapur in UP, going on to establish her own school that she successfully ran for 20 years.
After migrating to the US with her husband in 1998, she made a place for herself in the Martin Avenue Apartments community. She found family in the Hindu Satsang community as well as Metropolitan Asian Family Services program. She was admired, loved and respected by all who became acquainted with her. She loved knitting, cooking and bingo!!
Her family will be forever indebted to the excellent care provided to her by the physicians, nurses and other staff at Edward Hospital for their devotion and heart!
