Virginia loved life, and she lived hers to the fullest. She was a woman who had a deep, abiding faith in God and a matriarch who never stopped pouring her love and wisdom into her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The example she set for us will be passed on from generation to generation. Her advice was, the way you present yourself to the world is important, always give your best and listen more than you speak.
Virginia passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, March 27, 2024, at the age of 91. She was born in Eudora, Arkansas on August 17, 1932, to Nellie & Roosevelt Willis. Virginia was the second of eleven siblings. She moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1952. To achieve her goals, she worked full-time and went to school in the evenings, providing an amazing example to her children. She was married to Roosevelt Wallace for 64 years until he preceded her in death in 2016. Three children were born into this marriage. She was a faithful member of the Mt. Ebenezer Baptist Church for over 45 years. She loved her church family and drove every Sunday morning to worship with them until November 2023. The only thing that could keep her away was bad weather, but it had to be incredibly bad weather. An outing with her would likely include shopping (she loved to shop), going to a restaurant and checking out a new skin care product or lipstick. She was determined, poised, and dignified. She was computer savvy and mastered the internet well enough to shop online.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Sarah Holmes and Mary Ann Gilbert and brothers Calvin, Roosevelt, Leroy and David (Willis). She leaves, to cherish her memory, 3 children, Donald (Carol) Wallace, Beverly (Dwayne) Bush, and Sheila (Isaac) Pittard, 3 sisters Margaret Hughes, Henrietta Toney, and Rosemary Dodds, 1 brother Jack Willis, 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and a host of family & friends.
